Bernice ( Bernie) E. Komraus
I am a licensed counselor accredited as both an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and an NCC (National Certified Counselor) and a Certified Advanced Addiction and Drug Counselor (CAADC). After completing my master’s degree at Oakland University and requirements for licensure, I obtained additional expertise as a certified addiction counselor, mental health specialist-through Oakland University and training in critical incidence debriefing at Oakland Family Services. I have over 14 years of clinical counseling experience which includes one- on- one sessions as well as groups in varied setting which include work in a Methadone treatment clinic, inter-city non-profit agency, suburban non-profit agency, hospital employee situation and inter-city schools. I provide a comfortable non-threatening environment where clients can discuss, process and develop tools they can utilize to make the necessary changes in their lives. I am a compassionate, empathic, dedicated counselor who allows my clients the room to grow, accept and become the person they wish to be.
Combined with my previous background in law, where as a paralegal, I was
required to edit legal briefs and confer with the court; I provide the
necessary experience to help my clients obtain maximum benefits from
sessions. In addition, I can be helpful in being a supporting source as my
clients or their family members maneuver through the court systems. I
provide client focused therapy balanced with compassion, empathy and a warm
nurturing environment.
I utilize several different theoretical interventions including but not
limited to cognitive behavioral, psycho dynamic, reality, solution focused,
choice and motivational interviewing.
Additionally, I provide LLPC (Limited Licensed Professional Counselor)
supervision. I have also worked at the University of Detroit/Mercy as an
Adjunct Professor, supervising Practicum Students in the counseling
department and manage the on-site inter-city clinic.
I have worked in the Employee Assistance Area providing on-site employee
support at Troy Beaumont Hospital, and presented educational seminars on a
corporate level covering topics including Stress Management, Violence in the
Work Place, and Eating Healthy.
